ABOUT US
IOD is a defensive firearm, security, protection, and self-defense
training school headquartered in North Texas in the DFW area. Our goal is to
provide relevant and practical defensive firearms and self-defense training to
private citizens as well as law enforcement and security personnel. As our name
implies, the skills and techniques we teach allow the student to be
‘operational’ in providing for their own defense or the defense of other

Our Teaching Style
Our instructional style is a student-centric approach featuring a
quality-over-quantity model to maintain focus on the individual student. We
keep our classes relatively small to ensure that each student gets the
attention they deserve for maximum skill development and knowledge retention.
Students also benefit from our broad and deep experience in the real world. We
don’t think there is a one-size-fits-all methodology where techniques are
concerned. We utilize our experience to teach the student what we have found
works in practice and help them discover and improve the techniques that will
work for them. Whether it be a physical limitation or other reason, if there
are multiple techniques to accomplish a task, we will teach all that we know
and find one that works for you.
Church and
School Safety (a.k.a
active shooter) and Security Training
We have been providing armed security in schools since 2018, and lecturing/training/protecting churches for much longer. We offer the Texas School Safety Certification course (see below).
We have designed and implemented comprehensive security programs
for schools and churches from the ground up. Whether brand new or existing we will
help you access control, staff vetting, organizational concerns, security
consulting, and ongoing training requirements. We can even provide armed
security staff to assist you if needed.
When you have us train your school or church staff you are hiring a first-rate team that professionally protects schools and churches every day.
For Private Citizens
Our training will help you become more proficient with your
firearm whether you are a beginner or advanced skill level. Unlike other
training schools, we focus on the skills we know works and what you need to
defend and protect yourself and your family. Although there may be some
overlap, this is not military or law enforcement or security focused, but
instead focused on what you need to survive and improve your confidence and gun
handling skills.

CHURCH ARMED GUARDIAN TRAINING
Taught by
licensed Personal Protection Officers who work professionally providing church
security and armed protection for clergy and other well-known religious
figures.
We currently train multiple church armed guardian teams in increasing numbers. Our daily professional work includes churches and schools, so you’ll be in good hands with our team. We teach more than just firearms skills and include all of the techniques that work for us in the professional world. We’ve acquired a great deal of knowledge from our real-world operational experiences that you can benefit from by training with us.
TEXAS SCHOOL
SAFETY CERTIFICATION - ACTIVE SHOOTER
Taught by a TX
licensed School Safety Instructor who does works professionally providing Armed
School Security.
This is a 16-hour two-day course and is limited to six students per instructor. Class size is typically twelve. This class has been well received and we will be offering classes for those organizations wanting the knowledge but not the certification. We have conducted active shooter training for both churches and schools. We can also conduct security assessments at your location.
TEXAS PRIVATE SECURITY OFFICER TRAINING
Taught by a
licensed instructor who is also experienced and working personal protection
officer.
We currently offer a combined Level II, III, IV course; Recertification and Range Re-Qualification for Level III & IV, and Level IV Personal Protection Officer. Please check the calendar for dates or contact us if you need immediate re-qualification: http://operationaldefense/calendar
We will not provide
you with only a firearms proficiency range qualification if you have attended
an online class and are seeking only the firearm proficiency portion of the
training.
LAW ENFORCEMENT FIREARMS AND TACTICAL SHOOTING
Our instructors
are active and licensed Personal Protection Officers with years of experience
including Close Protection, Law Enforcement, and the Military.
These are highly specialized classes and reserved for active law enforcement officers, law enforcement firearms instructors, and professional executive/personal protection officers. This training is not open to the public. Our most frequent training is for law enforcement and private security contractor instructors needing required training hours, or teams requiring specialized advanced training.

Our head trainer has been a
professional working dog handler since 2012. He has the following
certifications: CACTP (Certified
Advanced Canine Training Professional); and CTBS: (Certified Canine
Training and Behavior Specialist).
He and his two Belgian
Malinois working dogs and both have years of real
working experience in security and protection in addition to competition as
well as being K9 Pro Sports Competitors, and
Our Protection Officers,
Security Officers, and investigation teams are using K9’s in the field where
appropriate. We’ve got years of experience using our dogs in real life
protection and guard operations. Canines can be a great force multiplier in
augmenting your self-defense capabilities too. Contact us for a consultation on
